Meandering thoughts of a soldier on politics, culture and life

Thank goodness this is over! The campaign continued to get increasingly nasty, and just before the candidates got into a fist-fight, the election came along. And not a minute too soon!

It was an overwhelming victory for the GOP, taking over both chambers of Congress, not to mention retaining the presidency. For President Bush, this is vindication for the 2000 election, as he not only won the electoral vote, but also a majority of the popular vote--the first time that has happened in 16 years (Pres. George H.W. Bush, ironically). Bush also received the largest number of popular votes in history, breaking Ronald Reagan's record set in 1984.

For his part, Senator Kerry greatly helped the situation with his grace in defeat. Instead of flooding the system with lawsuits, Kerry chose to take the high road, analyzing the statistical situation, rather than partisan hatred. His graciousness was a welcome breath of fresh air, and something that I'm guessing caused American voters to exhale.
